Following the new rules put in place on 9 July 2012, if you wish to extend your stay based on having a family and private life, you will need to make sure you apply under the correct route.
There is nothing worse than having your visa refused simply because you used the wrong application form, finding yourself without valid leave to remain in the UK. There are ways to remedy this of course but they are timely and costly and just pure aggravation.
The correct applications are the FLR(M) and FLR(O).
FLR(M) for the 5yr partner or parent route and FLR(O) for 10yr partner or parent or private life route.
If there is any advice we can give you now, it is to make sure you are applying with the correct application!! Do not jeopardise 10yrs of marriage and kids over the wrong form!
