It seems that Scotland won’t be the only ones greatly affected by the government’s acts to tighten student immigration rules. A parliamentary committee have said that the restrictions could cost the UK economy £3.6 billion over the next four years! UK universities rely heavily on non-EU students who tend to pay up to three times as much as students from Britain and the EU.
The Home Affairs Select Committee of the House of Commons accused the Home Secretary Theresa May of recklessly implementing the new rules without regard for the economic consequences.
Yet Theresa has refused to accept the official impact assessment of £3.6 billion given by her own department asking for a “better assessment and a better judgment of the true picture.” No progress on this as of yet…
